I’ve never danced contra before!

That’s totally fine! We love beginners! We’re not here to be perfect, we’re here to have fun. Just come to the beginner lesson and you’ll be good to go.

What is this dance like?

Contra dancing is a traditional form of American social dance for all ages where we welcome as many dancers as want to join in. It’s similar to square dancing, but danced with partners in long lines. It’s easy to learn, especially with our beginner lessons, and we encourage changing partners with each dance. If you’d like to learn more about it, see our What is Contra Dancing page — or just come join us!

Come and dance with all of your friends, and dance with new friends! We provide a lesson and calling using gender-neutral terms, making it easy to try either role. Everyone is encouraged to dance with anyone they choose, in any role, regardless of their gender.

What should I wear?

These dances are casual. No need to dress fancy — though you can if you want to. Many halls prefer that you change shoes when you arrive to protect the floor. Wear clothes you feel comfortable & fabulous dancing in.

I love this. How can I help?

Come to our dances and invite your friends! Spreading the word about this special community helps it grow.
